Troubleshooting topicTroubleshooting Activities

The following table describes some known situations you may encounter when working with Activities, and suggests solutions.

Symptom

Cause and Possible Solution

Graphical interface:

File>Export does not work.

File>Export is not supported on this release, even though it appears to work, the exported file may not be imported. To export a VTune performance tools project or Activity, right-click the item in the Tuning Browser and select Pack and Go from the pop-up menu.

My Activity doesn't run after I created it.

You did not check the Run Activity when done with the wizard option in the wizard when you created the Activity.

To run the Activity:

Select the Activity in the Tuning Browser and click Run Activity .

An application is not launched when the Activity is run.

You didn't configure an application/module profile as part of the Activity. You need to create a new Activity and specify the Application to Launch in the appropriate section.

Error message:

Application is not found.

The path for the application to launch may be incorrect.

To correct the problem:

Change the path in the Application to Launch entry in the Application/Module Profile Configuration dialog box.

Command-line interface:

I get an error message when trying to invoke the ActivityController.

Make sure you are running the Activity you want to control. Or if you are using several instances of the ActivityController, make sure the Activity to control is not managed by the other instance of the ActivityController.

The ActivityController provides an error message and exits instead of displaying the action results.

The ActivityController operates only on the currently running Activity. Make sure the Activity is still running.

I ran an Activity but the VTune(TM) Performance Environment does not collect performance data (OR does not display collected data).

The VTune environment may not have enough disk space for collected data.

Make sure the following directories used by the VTune Performance Environment to store a large amount of collected data have enough disk space:

  • user's data directory

  • global data directory

  • call graph cache directory (for the VTune(TM) Performance Analyzer)

Tip

To avoid system fails caused by the lack of disk space, keep these directories out of your system partition.
