Project

Contains one or more Activities, Activity results or/and folders. Typically, a project is used to organize Activities and Activity Results that are used to improve the performance of one or more applications. The project is stored in a project file (.vpj).

In the Eclipse* environment, the .vpj file is located in the .vtdata.data directory in the Eclipse project directory. The Eclipse project is located in the workspace directory. The workspace directory is as part of the vtlec invocation.

Folder

Enables adding another level of organization into your projects. You can create Activities, Activity results or other folders within a folder.

Activity

Used to perform the actual collection of data for later use in analysis and tuning. An Activity contains one or more data collectors, each of which collects a specific type of data. In addition, Activities may contain one or more application/module profiles, which contain information about how an application is executed.

Activity Results

The results of running an Activity.

Some data collectors may create an additional level of items below the Activity result. These additional items usually enable examination of certain aspects of the data.

To view an Activity result:

An Activity result may also have additional items beneath it in the Tuning Browser window. These items are called sub-results.

The following example shows the Tuning Browser on Windows with Run 1 and Clockticks as sub-results of the Sampling Results Activity result:
