Legend

The legend provides information on the sampling results on display. To view the legend, click Legend in the sampling toolbar. The legend for the Horizontal Bar Chart format differs slightly from the legend for the Table format.

Legend for Horizontal Bar Charts

Item

Description

<color-coded boxes>

Unique color-coded boxes to represent each event or event ratio selected for the Activity.

<Checkbox>

Check a box to view its associated bar, uncheck a box to hide it.

Indicates the event by which the data is sorted. An arrow pointing up means the data is sorted in an ascending order. An arrow pointing down means the data is sorted in a descending order. Click the column header to sort the items by it. This is a toggle operation that sorts the data in an ascending or a descending order.

Event

Name of the event selected during sampling. Each event has a dedicated row in the Legend.

Scale

Scaling factor that automatically scales the events to fit into the horizontal axis using the maximum value of the events.

Sample After Value

Number of occurrences of an event after which a sample is collected. If the Calibrate Sample After value option is selected during configuration of the sampling collector, the Sample After value will be established during runtime.

Total Samples

Number of samples collected for an event during the Activity run divided by the total number of samples collected for the Activity run.

Total Events

Number of events that occurred during the Activity.

Start Time

Date and time at which the Activity was run.

Duration

Actual time taken for sampling data collection. This value may be slightly less than the Activity duration specified, while configuring the sampling collector - since this time does not take into account the time when data collection is paused.

Machine Name

Name of the machine on which the sampling data was collected.

Processor

Number and type of the logical processors on your system.

Architecture

Intel(R) architecture.

Memory

Total physical memory.

Platform

Operating system.

Additional columns that appear when you enable Show/Hide CPU Info

Processor Number

Logical processor number. Processors are numbered sequentially, for example: 0, 1, 2, 3.

The following columns appear for Hyper-Threading Technology enabled systems

Package

Package number to uniquely identify each physical processor on the system. Note that packages may not be numbered sequentially, for example: 0, 3.

Hardware Thread

Hardware thread number for each physical processor, for example: 0, 1.

Activity ID

Color-coded boxes representing each Activity result.

Machine Name

Name of the machine on which you collected the performance data.

Processor

The number and type of all the logical processors on your system.

Architecture

Intel(R) architecture.

Memory

Total physical memory.

Platform

Operating system.

Start Time

Date and time when you ran the Activity.

Duration

Actual time taken for sampling data collection. This value may be slightly less than the sampling duration specified, while configuring the sampling collector - since this time does not take into account the time when data collection is paused.

Total Samples

Number of samples collected for an event in a run divided by the total number of samples collected for the entire run.

Ring 0

Number of samples collected at Ring 0 for the entire Activity.

Ring 3

Number of samples collected at Ring 3 for the entire Activity.

From the command line, you can also get Activity summary and environment summary information for the sampling results similar to the legend. To get this information, use the -activity-summary (or -as) option and env-summary (or -es) option.

note

If a column displays '---', it means that the VTune analyzer does not have enough information for that field.
